Posted: September 8, 2016

Delaware Lawyer Magazine’s Summer 2016 edition, Human Trafficking: Challenges to Ending Modern Day Slavery, featured an article written by the CSE Institute. The article, “Trauma and the Trafficking Victim: A Hidden Barrier to Legal Assistance,” describes how the traumatic experiences suffered by trafficking victims may affect their ability to participate in legal proceedings. Attorneys working with trafficking victims during prosecutions as well as civil actions must be mindful of the problems this may present. The article describes victim-centered approaches that attorneys working with trafficking victims should utilize to maximize success in legal proceedings while ensuring trafficking victims are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
