On May 29, 2015, President Obama signed the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act (JVTA). This newly enacted federal legislation furthers protection measures for minor victims of sex trafficking. The JVTA criminalizes those who patronize or solicit sex from minors as sex traffickers. The JVTA also makes funding available for states who provide comprehensive services to victims of sex trafficking, set up specialized law enforcement mechanisms to combat sex trafficking, and train law enforcement to identify minor victims of sex trafficking.
