SB851 “Safe Harbor” Advances in the Senate

Posted: October 27, 2015

This morning the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously voted to pass Senate Bill 851, known as “Safe Harbor.”

After SB851 was introduced by Senator Greenleaf and Senator Leach this past May, the Committee held two public hearings to review testimony in support and in opposition to the bill. Today, SB851 advances to a vote before the entire Senate.

We would like to recognize and thank our fellow advocates who supported SB851 throughout this process and who continue to champion for the eradication of commercial sexual exploitation in the Commonwealth and beyond:  Yasmin Vafa from Rights4Girls, Eliza Reock, Rachel Harper and Christine Raino from Shared Hope International, Jamie Manirakiza, the Director of The Salvation Army’s New Day to Stop Trafficking Program, Lisette McCormick of the Interbranch Commission on Gender, Racial, and Ethnic Fairness, Kathy Weir and members of the Pennsylvania Anti Human Trafficking Advocacy Work Group.
