UPDATE: Bloomsburg Mayor Arrested on Prostitution Charges

Posted: June 1, 2018

On May 17, 2018, Eric Bower resigned from his position as Bloomsburg mayor amid his recent arrest and heavily publicized prostitution charges.  Bower then waived his preliminary hearing, according to a press release from the Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro.

We first covered this story when news broke that Bower, 36, was arrested for allegedly soliciting commercial sex several times with a confidential informant from Pennsylvania State Police.  “This mayor flouted the law and solicited sex from a prostitute on multiple occasions,” said Attorney General Shapiro during the press release.

According to Morning Call, Patrick O’Connell, Bower’s attorney, stated that Bower resigned for “the good of Bloomsburg.” Bower is currently detained at Columbia County Prison on $5,000 bail.

The CSE Institute applauds Attorney General Shapiro for “not allow[ing] individuals in power to abuse the trust the public has placed in them.”
